COLORADO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA & CHORUS
Bernard Labadie, Conductor
Mozart’s Requiem

Colorado Symphony Orchestra and chorus at the Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek Colorado

ABOUT COLORADO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA & CHORUS:
Monday, January 31, 2011 - As the region’s only full-time professional orchestra, the Colorado Symphony Orchestra (CSO) embraces a tradition of musical excellence by presenting a wide variety of symphonic performances—from classical repertoire to innovative new forms—in Boettcher Concert Hall.

Enriching the souls of music lovers of all ages with an 80+ year legacy of symphonic music in Colorado, the CSO plays a key role in making Denver and the Rocky Mountain Region an exciting place to live, work and raise families. Each season, approximately 250,000 patrons attend CSO concerts, including a 21-week Masterworks series of classical programs, as well as Pops, Family, Holiday and Summer Parks concerts.

Established in 1989 as the successor to the Denver Symphony, the CSO is Colorado’s only resident orchestra composed of professional musicians employed to play symphonic music on a full-time basis. Musicians actively participate in the management of the organization through significant participation on the Association’s Board of Trustees, as well as all governing committees.

ABOUT THE CSO CHORUS:
Founded in 1984 by Duain Wolfe at the request of Gaetano Delogu, then music director of the Symphony, the Colorado Symphony Chorus has over the past two decades grown into a nationally respected ensemble, joining the Colorado Symphony for numerous performances and radio and television broadcasts, to repeated critical acclaim.

The chorus, with 200 members, has performed at noted music festivals in the Rocky Mountain region, including the Colorado Music Festival, Aspen Music Festival and the Grand Teton Music Festival, where it performed Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 under the direction of Zubin Mehta.

ABOUT MOZART's REQUIEM:
Mozart’s Requiem is perhaps one of the most popular pieces ever written. But its acclaim may also be attributed to the mystery that shrouds its history. Originally commissioned with the intent of being passed off as another’s work, the piece was ironically left unfinished at the time of Mozart’s death. Ultimately it became a requiem for Mozart himself.  Most recently, it is known as the haunting score for the award winning film “Amadeus”.

REPERTOIRE:
MOZART: Overture to The Magic Flute
MOZART: Oboe Concerto
MOZART: Requiem
