| ABOUT A FAR CRY: Wednesday, February 9, 2011 - Hailed by the Boston Globe as “one of Boston’s most promising classical music groups,” A Far Cry is making waves, experimenting with how music is performed and heard. A tightly-knit group of young professional musicians, A Far Cry was formed in early 2007 seeking the freedom and flexibility of a string quartet as well as the power and beauty of an orchestra. Operating with rotating leadership and no conductor, A Far Cry is generating interest not only in the concert hall, but also with its innovative model. All artistic decisions are made by vote as a collective, and the musicians take care of all the behind-the-scenes work, from booking concerts to designing programs. A Far Cry is also committed to social change and harmony, donating proceeds from concerts to homeless shelters in the Boston area, and partnering with other non-profits such as the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The evening’s program will include Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 11 in F major, K. 413 featuring pianist Joel Fan. |

| ABOUT JOEL FAN: Described as a “versatile and sensitive pianist” by the Washington Post, and a pianist of “probing intellect and vivid imagination” by the New York Times, Joel Fan’s engaging personality, technical assurance, lyricism and sheer musicality win over audiences wherever he performs. A member of Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble, Joel has also appeared as soloist with orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, London Sinfonietta, Singapore Symphony, New Symphony Orchestra of Bulgaria, and Odessa Philharmonic, among others. He has appeared under the baton of conductors including Alan Gilbert, Zubin Mehta, David Alan Miller, Gustav Meier, and David Robertson. He also shared the stage with Yo-Yo Ma for performances of the Beethoven Triple Concerto with the New York Philharmonic under the baton of David Zinman. A frequent recitalist, he earned the highest praise for his recitals in recent seasons at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art and the National Gallery in Washington, D.C. |
